Matthew John Hilborn - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

September 25, 1969 - June 15, 2025

Matthew John Hilborn, age 55, passed away on June 15th, 2025 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN, surrounded by family.

Born and raised in Valley City, ND, Matthew graduated from Valley City High School in 1988. After high school, Matt found his calling by combining his passion for craftsmanship with his natural talent for sales. Throughout his career, he worked at Wickes, HOM Furniture, and, most notably, Home Depot in Hudson, WI where he proudly worked for 16 years. His genuine personality and work ethic turned many colleagues into lifelong friends.

Matt was a loving son, father, brother, and friend who will be fondly remembered for his passion for classic cars - especially Cadillacs - as well as his impeccable, and sometimes questionable, sense of fashion. He was the kind of person who could always be counted on to lend a hand, and his generosity and willingness to help others left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.

Welcoming Matt home are his father, Russell Hilborn; stepfather, Warren Schulz; brother, Tad Hilborn; stepsisters, Stephanie and Sandra Schulz; and his loyal companion Willow. He is survived by his mother, Kathy Schulz; stepmother, Marlys Hilborn; children, Anna, Aly (Alex) Stack, Emerson, Carson, and Emma Hilborn; brothers, Jeff (Michelle) Hilborn, Paul (Nancy) Hilborn; stepsiblings, Stacey (Greg) Eisert, Suzanne (James) Robinson, Gary (Teri) Crooks, Karen Crooks, and Jeff Crooks; honorary brother, Kerry Malsam; in-laws, Mike Schmitz and Krista Martin; nieces and nephews, Morgan (Max) Runke, Katelyn (Chris) Jones, Madisyn (Reno) Fussy, Beau and Gage Hilborn, Adam (Louisa) Martin; and grandchildren, Piper, Emelia, and Arwen Stack.

A Celebration of Life is being planned.
