Richard Ernest Sandeen
“Dick”
Born in Superior, Wisconsin 06/18/1946. Passed away 12/13/2025 at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis following a struggle with dementia, Influenza A and pneumonia. He was a wonderful husband, stepfather, grandfather and great-grandfather. Dick loved teaching and coaching at Southview Middle and High School in Edina. He loved traveling the world, especially his many trips to Sweden. He was a proud member of the American Swedish Institute Male Chorus for many years. Dick’s strong faith guided his life, as he was a devoted member of House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Richfield since 1958.
Survived by wife, Judy Gross-Sandeen; step-daughters, Kristin (Tom) Peterson, Kimberly (Mike) Dimmick and Karol Gross; step-grandchildren, Cullen Gross, Nicole (Aaron) Kinne, Josh (Sarah) Stearns, Stephanie (Rob) Koppes, Alicia (Kevin) Rutten, Devyn (Jordan) Partington and Brandon (Teresa) Dimmick; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Cheryl Sandeen; niece, Nicole (Chuck) Edward; nephew Eric Mahn; many cousins and friends around the world. Preceded in death by parents, Ernie and Marie Sandeen; and brother David Sandeen.
Memorials preferred to House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Richfield or Richfield Spartan Foundation.

I taught with Dick at South View. One of the kindest, warmest, gentle people I have ever met.
Dick has been a wonderful neighbor of mine for years. He had the most kind spirit of anyone that I believe I’ve met. He will be missed by all of the 12th Av neighbors. My deepest sympathy Judy and their families.
So sorry to hear of his death. I worked for years with Dick at South View and was always impressed with his love for teaching, his positive connections with students and his reputation of being a wonderful colleague and person. He was one of the best and I cherish his memory and friendship. I am sad to miss his memorial as I will be in California during that time.
Ken, he felt so bad to have to miss your birthday gathering. He had just entered the hospital. He always spoke very highly of you and the love he had for Southview.
I’m sorry to hear this. I enjoyed having Mr Sandeen for English and as a coach for track and football. I can still picture him with a big smile and a hearty handshake
