May 19, 1976 - January 22, 2026
Ryan William Colby, age 49, passed away in his home on Wednesday, January 22nd. A proud father, loving son, inspiring brother, and loyal friend, Ryan lived life with a fierce love for his family and friends.
Ryan was born in Edina on May 19th, 1976 to parents Reeta and Jon. He grew up in Richfield and went to Dunwoody college where he studied mechanics, and made a 30 year career at Chrysler.
Since his teenage years Ryan held a deep passion for cars, and could often be found under the hood of a project, restoring them with the same care and dedication he brought to every part of his life. The roar of an engine and the smell of motor oil were sources of great joy and pride for him, as was fishing, camping, and golfing with his sons and friends.
Ryan was always the first to offer help, a listening ear, or a shoulder when needed. With a heart as big as his personality, he never hesitated to defend the vulnerable or support those he cared about, even if he himself was in poor health. His kindness, sense of humor, and love left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Above all, Ryan was a loving and protective father to his sons, who were the center of his world. He cherished every moment with them, guiding them with patience, pride, and encouragement. His sons were his greatest joy and legacy.
Ryan is preceded in death by his sister, Misty Colby and son, Sajun Becker, both of whom he dearly missed. He is survived by his sons, Lowell and Malachi Colby; his mother, Reeta Schmitt; his father, Jonathan Colby; his stepfather, Russell Jahn; his stepmother, Denise Colby; his brothers, Matthew and Robert Jahn; sister-in-law, Kat Jahn; daughter-in-law, Lauren Higman; former wife, Julie Becker and a wide circle of friends who will miss him beyond measure.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 1st at the Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel in Richfield from 1pm-4pm. All friends and family of Ryan's are invited to join us in honoring his memory.
