Billy “Bill” Dean Anderson was born in Forest City, Iowa on May 26, 1934, to Shirley and Geneva (née, Buffington) Anderson. He reveled in small town life and excelled in sports. As he liked to tell his grandchildren, “I was the smartest kid in the dumb row.”
Bill graduated from Forest City High School in 1952 and enrolled in Waldorf Business College. In 1954, he joined the US Army and served two years. After completing his service, he attended the University of Iowa where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration.
He moved to Minneapolis to work at Fidelity Casualty, Insurance Company. A young secretary there, Grace Jaskowski, often covered for his chronic tardiness. They fell in love and married on December 27, 1959. They had three sons, David, Darin, and Derick, and made their home in Richfield, Minnesota.
Bill held several sales jobs before starting his own real estate brokerage, Red Carpet Realty, in 1965. He and Grace built a successful business and sold it in 1996. Upon their retirement, they enjoyed time at their cabin, traveling throughout the United States, and participation in their church. Most of all, Bill adored his grandchildren and made their childhoods more magical.
Bill is survived by his wife of 66 years, Grace; sons, David (Amy) Anderson, Darin Anderson and Derick (Michelle) Anderson; grandchildren, Claire Anderson (Brendan Coker), William (Emily Vitalis) Anderson and Reagan Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley and Geneva Anderson, and brother, Terry Anderson.

Bill you were the best father, father-in-law, and grandpa we could have ever asked for! I am so glad that Derick and Reagan inherited your athleticism. I know that you are in a better place now and giving chuckles to many people including my parents.
Bill always made me (and everybody) part of the fun when I’d tag along with Derick and the family to the cabin, out to eat, or just hanging around the Anderson house. He was so kind and funny and I always enjoyed seeing him. My thoughts are with the whole Anderson Family.
Bill, Doug and I are so sorry to hear of your passing. We rented from you in Bloomington for 11 years and couldn’t have asked for a better landlord. Always there if we needed something done. We bought the house last year and you were so accommodating. You had a lot of stories when we’d meet up. God Bless you, Grace and your family. Your Service was Beautiful. Loved Pastor Dave.
