Age 82, of Horseshoe Bay TX, formally of Prior Lake, MN and Chicago, IL area.

Survived by husband Joe, daughter Sandy (Larry) Wikelius, son Jack (Cathy) Carlos, grandchildren Carly Wikelius, Raymond (Megan) Carlos, Erin (Kevin) Vendeland, Hannah (Brendan) Smith, Drew Wikelius, and great grandchild Arnie Carlos, sisters Nancy Silman and Linda Kusch, as well as many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Carol was baptized and confirmed at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Chicago. She graduated from Amundsen High School and continued her education at the Augustana Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago where she received her RN in 1962. Later she would attend University of St Frances to get her BSN. While Carol enjoyed many aspects of nursing, geriatrics is where her heart was.

In 1961, Carol married Joe Carlos and together they raised their two children. Throughout their marriage they lived in Illinois, Minnesota, Florida and Texas. They also traveled to many countries around the world. In 2016 they sold their Florida home and took a road trip that lasted 18 months visiting all 50 states.

Volunteer work, community, church and faith have always been important parts of her life. She was a volunteer nurse for people in need, a member of her church’s altar guild, taught Sunday School, became a Stephen Minister and a little later a Stephen Leader. Her most recent volunteer work has been with Orphan Grain Train. In addition to her volunteering, she enjoyed a variety of social activities including dancing with The Wildflower Dance Group of Horseshoe Bay Texas.

    Condolences and blessings to Carol’s family. I was in her house a lot when young and she was always loving, warm, and direct. She embraced being mom and she had high expectations for Jack and the rest of us. She was a bright spot for all of us.
