October 23, 1965 - June 27, 2026
Charles Broderick Robinson, affectionately known as “Charlie Mo-Molly,” was born on October 23, 1965, in Panama City, Florida, to Sandra Jean Harvey and Jerry Bausley (“Whitey”), both of whom preceded him in death.
At a young age, Charles relocated to Chicago, Illinois, where he was raised and built lifelong friendships. In 1997, he made Minneapolis, Minnesota his home after meeting the love of his life and devoted partner, Sue Schmidt. Together they shared years filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Charles began his education at Donoghue Elementary School before transferring to Oscar Mayer School. He later attended Wendell Phillips High School, where he graduated with the Class of 1983. Following graduation, Charles proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, demonstrating his dedication and commitment to serving his country.
Cooking wasn’t just Charles’s profession, it was his passion. He began his culinary career as a chef at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he perfected his craft and earned the respect of those around him. In 2021, Charles and his brother, Jewuan Marshall, turned a lifelong dream into reality by opening Soul to Soul Smokehouse in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Through hard work, determination, and a love for bringing people together over great food, Charles continued doing what he loved until his passing.
His infectious smile, quick wit, and unforgettable sense of humor could light up any room. Whether he was telling jokes, dancing to his favorite music, or passionately cheering on his beloved Chicago Bears, Charles lived life with joy and authenticity. He was truly the life of every gathering, and his presence made every moment a little brighter.
On Saturday, June 27, 2026, Charles peacefully departed this earthly life and entered eternal rest. He was welcomed home by his parents, Sandra Jean Harvey and Jerry Bausley (“Whitey”); his beloved grandmother Jimmie Johnson; his beloved best friend, Harold Jr.; and his grandchild Emory.
Charles leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew him. He leaves to cherish his memory his three beloved children: Ivy Powell, Corey Robinson, and Cubie Robinson; his treasured grandchild, Kyrie; five loving siblings: Lynette Marshall of Chicago, Illinois; Yvette Moore (Michael) of Merrillville, Indiana; Jerri Ann Hatcher of Chicago, Illinois; Jewuan Marshall of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and DeAndre Hatcher of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He also leaves his special aunt, Cynthia Givens; his lifelong friends, Moe Irby and Brian Gill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and countless friends who will forever treasure the memories they shared with him.
Charles’s legacy of love, laughter, great food, and unwavering loyalty will live on through everyone whose life he touched. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit, his jokes, and the love he gave so freely will remain in our hearts forever.
“Take your rest, “Charlie Mo-Molly”. Your work here is done, but your memory will live on forever.”

I met Charlie and Sue nearly 30yrs ago. My partner at the time picked Charlie up for a ‘store run’ before he & Sue’s house party was starting. I will always remember that car ride because Charlie & I instantly connected as if we had known each other for years. The rest was history. We spent so many good times together the four of us. Charlie always always had my back. Decades later, after I moved to Houston, Charlie called me every few months to see how I was doing. We could visit for hours. He always made me laugh, feel seen and loved. At our age, he was the only friend who would answer after midnight! I am going to miss him so much as everyone who knew him most certainly feels. My heart and prayers are with his family and especially Sue – the love of his life – as well as his kids who he boasted about to me so often. Love you Charlie! Thank you for being a real friend. Rest well. I will see you again one day❤️!
Holy stories. We had some really crazy times. I’ll always remember the way he told a story or said my name. He was a character. “What the hell wrong with you Dan”! We smiled and laughed a lot. He was older than me. We grew up in different worlds doing way different things. Yet we got along really well. He was easy to get along with. My whole family loved him too. He was this force. He was unapologetically Charlie Mo Molly. I respect the hell out of him for that. I regret not trying harder to reconnect sooner with him. Way too much time passed. I really wanted him to meet our kids. I think they would have loved him. RIP my friend. You will be missed.
Oh Charles, in which I’ve always called him. I met Charlie and the twins and Jewuan when I was 5yrs old. My family moved to Lake Park manor in 1975. He was one of the big kids as we called the older children on the block. He was always cool and up to something. I would always catch him and Harold doing no good lol. But I would never tell. Anyways, I missed his phone call two weeks prior and I’m so upset that I didn’t call him back. But we would talk for at least an hour or two reminiscing lake park manor. I will truly miss Charles, big brother. Rest well until we all kick it again. Love Kimberly ❤️
