September 2, 1939 - November 20, 2024
Don Vandervort Caplinger, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and devout Christian, passed away peacefully of Alzheimer’s Disease on November 20, 2024, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was born on September 2, 1939, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Harold S. Caplinger and Cornelia V. Caplinger. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, French; sister, Caroline Carter; and nephew, "Rusty" Cummins.
Don is survived by Mary, his loving wife of 59 years; and their three sons, Phillip (Lisa), Andrew (Kris), and John (Bethany). He was a proud grandfather to Caitlin, Josh, Owen, and Luke; and is also survived by his sister, Marilyn, as well as numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
For 40 plus years, Don worked with at-risk families and teens in Dallas, Los Angeles and Hennepin County until his retirement from public service in 2011. He was a teacher, deacon and elder who actively supported Hope Church’s youth, men’s, Bible study and missions groups and loved hosting new U of M international students and family gatherings.
Don's life was a testament to love, service, and faith. He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.
In his memory, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Mt. Olivet Careview, Minneapolis MN or Hope Presbyterian Church, Richfield, MN.
Sorry for your loss. Don made a difference in many lives through his work. Wishing his family peace and comfort.
