Doris Margaret Root - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

March 19, 1925 - May 23, 2016

Doris Margaret Root (nee, Brink) age 91, passed away 5/23/2016. She was active and lucid to the end at home in Richfield, but her heart couldn't keep up. She was born in Minneapolis 3/19/1925 to parents Leonard and Mabel (Ashcroft) Brink, graduated Central HS in 1943, and worked during the war at Honeywell assembling precision lenses. She attended the Minneapolis School of Art, graduating in 1948, then worked as a fashion illustrator for Powers and S&L department stores. Doris met George Leslie Root at a dance at the Prom ballroom, and they married 8/4/1951. They shared a gift for drawing and painting, George becoming an architect and Doris working at Art Instruction School of Minneapolis. They and their two children enjoyed many cross-country road trips, and later traveled to Europe and beyond. Doris had a sharp memory for events of the past and told a good story. She was warm-hearted and seldom held a grudge. Doris was a devoted wife, loving mother, and loyal friend. We will miss her deeply. Preceded in death by husband George, brother Earl, and longtime friends Dorothy (Ditschler) Kartak and Betty (Engwall) Svejkovsky. Survived by children Jeffrey and Jennifer (Douglas) Bezek, cousin Robert Burton Brink, nieces and nephews Bob and Donna (Fernstrom) Vidas, Gaylord and Jeanenne Fernstrom, Heidi (Gustafson) Green, their children and grandchildren, and many good friends at Gramercy Park Cooperative. Private interment at Ft Snelling National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Nicholas Episcopal Church.

Doris was always so warm and gracious when I would come to visit Jennie as a teenager. My sympathy and love to Jennie and Jeff and family in this time of loss.
