Emil Shipka, age 90, of Edina passed away on June 23, 2007 after spending a wonderful day celebrating with family and friends. He was born on March 30, 1917 in Virginia, MN and raised in Calumet, MN. He graduated from Greenway High School in 1935 and entered the U.S. Navy in 1938, serving in the Pacific Theater in WWII.Emil married G. Josephine (Drone) while on leave from the Navy in 1945. He is survived by wife, Josephine; children, Barbara Shipka; Susan and husband, Gerald Szczech, of Coralville, IA; son, Milan Shipka and wife, Nancy, of Two Rivers, AK; granddaughters, Karna Szczech, Becky (Dave) Kurth, Mandy Szczech, Nikki (John) McGreevey and Molly Shipka; great-grandsons, Brady Kurth and Kyle Kurth; brother, Peter Sovil; sisters, Helen Gillespie and Stella Vukodinovich and husband, Eli; Emil received his B.A. in Education and Business Administration form the U of Minn. as well as Masters Degree in Public Administration, spending his career in public school administration, including 18 years in Richfield Public Schools. He also worked as the Executive Secretary for the Richfield Chamber of Commerce and as a Financial Representative for Cadre Services. He was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church for 45 years, serving as an Elder, Deacon, adult education instructor and in Shepherd and Stephen ministries as well as singing in the Chancel Choir.Emils was a Past President of MN Association of Business Administrators, was active in the Lion's Club, was President of Mesa (AZ) Regal Masons and member of Zuhrah Shrine. Emil enjoyed people and his laugh and friendly smile will be missed by family and friends. Emil chose to have a service of rejoicing, giving thanks for his life, his family, his loved ones in the comforting knowledge that there is a fuller life for him in eternity with the Lord in the place that He has prepared for him.
