George B. Bjork

George B. Bjork of Roseville, MN passed away on Tuesday, March 31 at the age of 95. He is preceded in death by sisters, Hazel & her husband Robert Port, and Carolyn (Lester) Dahlman.

He is survived by wife, Harriet Bjork; daughters, Cheryl (Norman) Maser, Karen Bjork, and son David Bjork; grandchildren, Jeremy Bjork, Phillip Maser, Kristina (Stephen) Bjork-Taylor, Joel Maser, Jason Maser, and Gabriel Maser.

George was a lifelong problem solver—someone who could fix nearly anything and was always learning, building, and doing.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he rose through the ranks to become a sergeant first class. During his service, he was wounded in combat and was later awarded the Purple Heart in recognition of his sacrifice. True to his humble nature, George felt he did not need the physical medal; however, on his 93rd birthday, he was presented with it in person.

Following his honorable discharge, George was offered a position at Minnesota Mutual Life and chose to begin his career there rather than attend college on the GI Bill. He went on to teach himself the emerging field of computers, becoming an expert as technology evolved. His curiosity and drive to learn never faded.

It was at Minnesota Mutual Life that George met the love of his life, Harriet. They married and built a life together, raising three children. George was a devoted and engaged father, always active-fixing, building, and helping wherever he was needed. He was a true partner to Harriet, assisting with projects around the house, decorating for the holidays, and supporting her many creative pursuits.

George had a deep appreciation for the beauty of the natural world. He especially enjoyed watching birds, squirrels, deer, and other wildlife gather around the bird feeder.

In November 2020, George nearly lost his life to COVID-19. He later reflected on his recovery as “the miracle of the Christmas that almost wasn’t.” George and Harriet celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary on January 9.
