Age 76, of Minneapolis. Survived by husband, Kenneth Kvenild; children, Kimberly (Thomas) Totushek, Kristina (Andrew) Larsen, Kaare (Michelle) Kvenild, Kyle (Ellen) Kvenild; grandchildren, Kathryn Totushek, Emily Totushek, Isaak Larsen, Noelle Larsen, Joseph Larsen, Quintin Kvenild, Stella Kvenild, Gunnar Kvenild, Ruth Kvenild, Natalie Kvenild and Levi Kvenild; brother, Michael (Delores) Kittelson; sister-in-law, Bonnie Kittelson; brother-in-law, Steve Hosch; best friend, Cheryl Anderson; and other loving family and friends.

Preceded in death by parents, Irving and Gladys Kittelson; sister, Cheryl Hosch; and brother, Leland Kittelson.

Kathy was born in Minneapolis, MN on May 25, 1950 to Irv and Gladys Kittelson. While her home was in Minneapolis, she spent much of her childhood at the family lake home with her parents and her brothers, Lee and Mike and her sister, Cheri. She attended Minneapolis Public Schools through 10th grade and then went to Hillcrest Lutheran Academy for 11th and 12th grade, where she met her lifelong best friend, Cheryl. She attended nursing school at Northwestern School of Nursing and graduated in 1970.

In December of 1970, Kenneth got up the nerve to ask Kathy out on a date after his mom had sent him to Irv’s store every Friday for groceries because Kathy was working and she was “such a nice girl.” He thought she would turn him down, but she said “yes,” and they had their first date at the soda fountain at Peterson Drug across the street from the store. In March of 1972, they were married at Ebenezer Lutheran Brethren Church in Minneapolis.

Kathy and Kenny have four children and 11 grandchildren. She loved baking with her grandchildren and showering them with gifts; including homemade crocheted sweaters and blankets, homemade quilts, and pretty much whatever they could think of for her to make.

Kathy loved opening her house to guests whether they were just passing through for a night or needed to stay for a couple of months. Friends and family were always welcome. She always had a stash of baked goods in the freezer to pull out for those who stopped by unexpectedly, and a bowl of candy for her grandchildren to dive into whenever they visited.

Her faith was at the center of her life and she shared Jesus with everyone around her. Even during her numerous visits to the oncology clinic over the past two years, she gently shared her faith with her medical team and other patients who were also receiving treatment.

After a two year battle with cancer, she is now healed and Home with her Savior along with other family and loved ones who are already in Heaven with Jesus.

Thank you to all the family and friends who prayed for Kathy, brought meals to her and Kenny, and came to visit while she was sick. It meant so much to them.

The family would also like to thank the team at Minnesota Oncology in Minneapolis for the excellent care they gave to Kathy these past two years. They not only took care of her physical needs, but many became like family to her and Kenny as they swapped stories about their families during her treatment times.
