Mark Gene Koehler - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

November 7, 1951 - October 8, 2017


Mark Gene Koehler, the youngest of seven children, was born on November 7, 1951, in Fairmont, MN to Louis and Meta (Nolte) Koehler. He was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in Northrop, MN. He attended St. James Parochial School in Northrop, MN and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1969.

Mark was drafted into the US Army in 1971 and received an Honorable Discharge in 1973 as a Specialist with Company D 82nd Engineering Battalion in Bamburg, Germany.
On May 18, 1974, Mark was united in marriage to Barbara Abram at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairmont, MN. This marriage was blessed with two daughters, Heidi and Jaime. They later divorced in 1998.

Mark was a gifted woodworker spending most of his life as a carpenter. He began his career with his father and brother at Koehler Construction. He designed and built homes in Northrop, MN, Pagosa Springs, CO and remodeled a home in Fairmont, MN. After moving to AZ, he participated in the construction of the Mayo Clinic Scottsdale AZ facility. He worked as a security officer at the Mayo Clinic Scottsdale site and was working for a private security firm at the time of his death.

Even though he moved to AZ in 1986, he remained an avid MN Vikings and Twins fan. He watched as many games as he could and cheered them on with much enthusiasm.
Mark is survived by his two daughters, Heidi (Jeremy) Mussemann and Jaime (Brandon) Firman both of Mesa, AZ; three grandchildren, Alyson and Zachary Mussemann and Liberty Firman; one sister, Ruth (Sam) Rockett; one brother, David (Delia) Koehler; nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Meta Koehler, one brother, Herb (LaVera) Koehler; three sisters, Rosemary Karnatz Sorenson, Jeannette Koehler and Joy Koehler.
