Michael James Commerford, Sr.

April 23, 1946 - September 11, 2023


Michael James Commerford, Sr. age 77, passed away peacefully at Avow Hospice in Naples, Florida, on September 11, 2023, after a 4-year struggle with vascular dementia.

Born in Benson, MN, he was preceded in death by his parents, Marcellus Jerome and Hazel Peterson Commerford; and brother Daniel Commerford.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Bennie of Naples, FL; daughters, Christine Walker (Eddie) of Parker, CO, Colleen Commerford of Farmington MN, and son, Michael Commerford, Jr., of Apple Valley, MN; mother of his three children, Nancy Commerford; two granddaughters, Ashlea Walker and Melinda Lopez (Abraham), both of Colorado Springs, CO; sisters, Patricia Commerford of Royalton, MN, and Mary Orchard (Beau) of Shoreview, MN; brothers, Jerry Commerford (Debbi) of Willow River, MN, Steven Commerford (Sue) of New Ulm, MN, Bobby Commerford of Royalton, MN, and Mark Commerford (Jamie) of Hugo, MN.

Mike had a 28-year career in law enforcement, and retired as a Sergeant at the Dakota County Sheriff’s Department. He was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the 196th Light Infantry Brigade. Mike owned and operated Commerford Refrigeration & Air Conditioning in Hastings, MN.

Mike enjoyed travel, boating, and fishing. His true passions were construction, home projects, and renovation - he was always working on something! He also liked spending time with his family and friends. He was a fan of country music and enjoyed dancing.

The family would like to thank the staff who cared for Mike at The Pineapple House at Sapphire Lakes Memory Care and to the staff of Avow Hospice who cared for him during the last month of his life.

All are welcome to join the family as we celebrate Mike’s life on October 5, 2023. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am at the Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel, 6527 Portland Ave. So., Richfield, MN 55423, followed by a burial with honors at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 12:45pm. A reception will follow at Everett McClay VFW Post 1296, 311 W 84th St, Bloomington, MN 55420 from 1:30-4:30pm.
