Phyllis C. “Phyl” Mueller

Phyllis Charlene “Phyl” Mueller, age 78, of Minneapolis, was summoned from this vale of tears to be with Him on August 4, 2026.

Phyl was born on July 20, 1948, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, the youngest of four children born to Clarence and Esther Carlson. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith that same day at Grand Rapids Hospital and was later confirmed by Pastor R. R. Schultz on April 15, 1962, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church. Phyl graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1966 and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from Concordia College in St. Paul in 1970.

Following college, Phyl was called to serve at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Bloomington, where she taught preschool and worked as the church secretary. She later joined the University of Minnesota’s St. Paul campus, working as a secretary in the Office of Special Programs. Over the years, Phyl also worked in retail at Snyder Drug and Lee Wards, which later became Michaels.

On June 2, 1973, Phyl married Bruce Mueller, and together they raised two children, Ben and Amy. Phyl treasured the time she spent with her family and friends and had a lifelong love of crafting, particularly cross-stitch, crochet, and knitting. She enjoyed sharing those talents with others and taught classes at Minneapolis Lutheran High School, Lee Wards, and Michaels. Music was another important part of Phyl’s life; she played the trombone and loved singing in the church choir.

Phyl was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Esther Carlson; brother, Clarence “Bud” Carlson; and brother-in-law, Clarence “Ole” Olson.

Survived by her husband, Bruce Mueller; son, Benjamin "Ben" Moes-Mueller and daughter-in-law, Emilia "Emi" Moes-Mueller; daughter, Amy Mueller and son-in-law, Myles Buchanan and granddaughter, Addison; as well as her siblings and their spouses, nieces and nephews, many grandnieces and grandnephews, and other family and friends who will miss her dearly.
