Raymond John Smieja, age 89 of Richfield, went to his eternal home on May 27, 2016. Ray was a longtime employee of the Star Tribune and retired in March 1991. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Alice; granddaughter, Angie; brothers, Ernest, Herbert and Gerald. Our "Ray of Sunshine" is survived by his children; James (Juliene), Kathryn (Oliver), Daniel and Patricia; grandchildren, Lisa, Melanie, Jennifer, Jody, Elizabeth, Eric, Glenn and Jameson; great-grandchildren, Devan ,Stella, Alexander, Alexis, Eryka, Isabella, Presley, Pryce, Isabel, Andrew and Sydney; many nieces and nephews; brother, Donald (Dell); and the residents and staff at the Pines Assisted Living Community in Richfield, which was his second family.
Memorials to St. Peter's Catholic Church Endowment Fund. Ray's family would also like to extend its grateful appreciation to the wonderful staff at N.C. Little Hospice of Edina for the extraordinary attention and tender care they provided.
