Edna Mae Buoen, of Oak Park Heights, formerly of Richfield, passed away peacefully August 31, 2019 in Oak Park Heights, MN at the age of 95. She was born March 15, 1924 in Cambridge, MN to Sarah Acqueline Erickson and Gordie Sylvester Hawkinson. Edna Mae attended a two-room schoolhouse in her primary years and was a graduate of Cambridge High School. As a young woman, she moved to the "cities", and was a secretary for the American Can Company. On June 25, 1960, she married Lorin Narve Buoen from Thief River Falls. Together they raised their family and set a wonderful example of love and devotion. Edna Mae began working for Richfield Public School District as a media aide as "the girls" got older. She was very proud of her Swedish heritage and enjoyed knitting, cross-stitch and sewing. She was an active member of Woodlake Lutheran Church and found great strength in her faith. Edna Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Lorin, in 2000; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert (Mary) Hawkinson, Kenneth (Margaret) Hawkinson and Paul (Clarice) Hawkinson and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clifford (Viola) Buoen. Edna Mae is survived by daughters Jackie (Bob) Crook and Janet (Gary) Johnson; grandchildren, Sarah (Logan) Kern, Erik Crook, Jessica Cooper and Colman Johnson; great-grandchildren, Arlo Kern, Isaiah Cooper and Finnley Eskelson and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

Aunt Edna Mae was always a special person in my life. I can still hear her laugh, “the little sweet heart”. I am happy for her as she has joined her lord and all of those loved ones waiting for her to come home. My grief is for her family and those of us who will miss her. Thinking of all of you.

Dear Jackie and Janet and Family;
I’m so sorry for your loss. I Loved Aunt Edna Mae, such a Dear Heart and always a kind word from her lips.
When Muggy was taking the turn from her dementia, your Mom knitted Muggy a prayer shawl, in a beautiful light blue yarn, the color of Muggy’s eyes! Muggy wore that shawl all the time. Now I wear that shawl, on cold mornings or winter nights, and think of Aunt Edna Mae and Muggy. It’s also our grandkids favorite “snuggle blanket” :)
I still have the note and story behind the “prayer shawl” that Edna Mae sent to Muggy.

I remember Edna Mae very fondly, and enjoyed visiting with her.
So sad to hear my sweet Aunt Edna Mae has left us. But happy to know that she is now going to enjoy her new journey with her loving husband and family that have been patiently waiting for her to join them. Our prayers go out to Jackie & Janet and their families for the loss of their Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. What a great example of how to live life she has given to all of us! I hope we can all live on with a little Edna Mae within us. And we all look to pay her kindness forward to everyone in our lives. God Bless her soul!
She was a wonderful Sunday School teacher. That warm smile and soft voice made the little ones love her.
What a dear , dear lady…was in our prayer shawl ministry from day one and knit many, many shawls. How we missed her when she moved from Richfield. We were all blessed by her presence….our sympathy to you, Janet, Jackie, and all her loved ones.
Dear Jackie and Janet, We were very surprised and saddened to get a voice mail message from Karen, sent 5 days ago, (which Lance unfortunately missed seeing), concerning Edna Mae’s passing. I hope you know that we would have absolutely been there today for you girls as we feel the forever love of our two families in so very many happy memories.
