George J. Thibault, on Saturday, May 2, 2020. George, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away at the age of 85 after a brief illness. George was born in 1935 in Detroit Lakes, MN. He graduated from Detroit Lakes High School and attended North Dakota Agricultural College. He served in the Air Force. He worked for 64 years with MnDOT. George lived independently with his loving wife, Kaye. He was grateful to remain involved in the lives of and was thankful for his children, grandchildren, and many friends. Preceded in death by parents, George and Hilda (Hassler) Thibault, sister Mary and brother-in-law, John Ahmann. Survived by his wife Kaye; his children, Mike (Dee), Monica (Dave Leitner), Renate, Stephan (Jenny) and Andre (Paula); grandchildren, Dusty, Damien, Dylan, Ashley (Jarid), Forest, Willow, Bodhi, Jacob, Cecilia, Kate, and Luc; six great-grandchildren; niece and nephews.

I was so saddened to read that George had died. He was such a great guy and friend, a true room brightener. I have lost touch with so many work friends but have often thought of you and George with fond memories. Know that you and George’s kids are in our prayers. The world is a dimmer place without him.

I only met George about 20 years ago at a MnDOT meeting. Since then we mainly interacted by phone and later by email. He was very helpful to me over the years and I was able to dig through a few county recorder’s offices to look for records for him.
In early 2014 we were at a meeting when a young surveyor from Rochester, who was presenting to the group, stated that nobody still working here was working here in 1959, he hadn’t even been born yet. George was too kind to mention it right then, but several of our peers were not that kind. The young man accepted the ribbing in good nature and we all had a good chuckle.
We lost a good man and I will miss him.
