Gloria B. Wood, PhD, an esteemed psychologist and beloved family matriarch passed away peacefully in her sleep of April 26, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on February 22, 1938, in Minneapolis, MN, Gloria's life was marked by an unwavering commitment to education, a passion for the arts and music, and an enduring love for her family.
Gloria's academic journeys included Hamline University, and Virginia Tech, before completing her PhD at the University of Minnesota. Her academic excellence was paralleled by her dedication to teaching, as becoming as respected Professor of Psychology at the University of Minnesota.
Beyond her professional achievements, Gloria's life was rich with interests like being a professional artist, a talented pianist and teacher, and an eye for photography collecting memories in time.
Animals were her favorite companions and confidants, and her passion for genealogy connected the branches of her family tree.
She is survived by her loving children, Wendy Weller (Tom), Wayne Wood (Susan) and Laura Wood; grandchildren, Victoria Stanford (Mike), Adam Weller (Jill), Crystal Gove, Angela Weller (Jeff), Erik Weller (Sheri), Aaron Wood (Oney), Alex Wood, and Christina Elias; great-grandchildren, Kailey, Julius, McKenzie, John, Brianna, Nicholas, Ayden, Preston, Georgia, and Carter; great-great-grandchildren, Lively, Saylor and Ever.
Gloria is preceded in death by her mother, Minette; father, Earl; brother, Richard; and son, Timothy; along with many wonderful friends, loved ones, and beloved animals.
Gloria's journey through life was a testament to the power of an inquisitive mind and a generous spirit. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who were graced by her presence. Along with her many friends, colleagues and patients. As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, we celebrate her love for her family and all whom she knew. Rest in peace, dear Gloria.
