August 27, 1923 - January 1, 2026
Gerhardt, Lyle Douglas
Age 102, of Lakeville, passed away Jan. 1, 2026. Lyle grew up on the family farm in Bloomington where he developed a life-long passion for farming. As Bloomington grew, the land he and his father farmed became the site for Metropolitan Stadium and later the Mall of America. In addition to farming, he worked for years at Astleford in the parts department where he developed a strong rapport with customers and colleagues.
Lyle enjoyed all things horses and owned many through the years. He became involved with the Pony of the Americas Club while his children David and Leslie showed horses across the state.
In retirement, he enjoyed golf at Hyland Hills. He was as generous to those close to him as he was with gimme putts.
Lyle had a quick wit and sense of humor that won many people over. He struck up conversations easily and frequently mentioned the best decision he made was to attend a Roosevelt football game where he met his wife, Wanita. Together the couple celebrated 79 years of wedded bliss.
He is survived by his wife, Wanita; son, David (Susan) Gerhardt; daughter, Leslie (Roger) Sweningson; and grandsons, Luke & Nick Gerhardt, and Kyle & Eric Sweningson. Preceded in death by parents, Paul & Ruth Gerhardt; brother Russell; sister Betty; and in-laws, Bill & Venita Nordeen.
