Marlys Louise Hyslop - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

May 7, 1936 - September 11, 2025

Marlys Louise Hyslop

Age 89, formerly of Richfield and Bloomington, MN. Marlys was born and raised in Cologne. MN on May 7, 1936 to Arthur and Eleanor AmEnd. Marlys grew up on the family farm outside of Cologne, where she developed a love of gardening, cooking, and time spent with family. Marlys left Cologne for Minneapolis after she graduated from Waconia High School where she started her career as a keypunch operator for The Prudential Insurance Co. and Control Data Corporation. A blind date would pair her with the love of her life, Jim Hyslop, which resulted in a happy and memorable fifty-five-year marriage. Once Marlys and Jim began their family in 1958, Marlys became a full-time homemaker as well as working various part-time keypunch jobs most notably at the VanDusen Corporation in Bloomington, MN. In 1976 Marlys re-entered the full-time work force, beginning a long and gratifying tenure working for National Computer Systems in Edina and Eagan, MN. It was at NCS where Marlys’ innate curiosity, willingness to learn, and ability to adapt were noted and fostered as she graduated from a keypunch operator to a computer programmer over the course of her career. Her retirement in 2001 brought a welcome change to her life, where she was able to turn her energies to gardening, cooking, and reading. It was also at this time when Marlys became a wonderful, deeply devoted, and deeply cherished grandmother.

Marlys was predeceased by her husband, Jim Hyslop; parents, Arthur and Eleanor AmEnd; brother, Douglas AmEnd; and sister-in-law, Gloria AmEnd. She is survived by sons, Bruce Hyslop and Scott (Dora) Hyslop; grandchildren, Andrew Powers, Sarah (Paul) Hackbarth, and Nicholas Hyslop; great-grandchildren, Aidan and Michael Hackbarth; sister-in-law, Jean (Bruce) Carlson; nieces, Barbara Hoffman and Diane (Rob) Miller; nephews, Marty (Mary) Carlson and Jim Carlson.

Memorials are preferred to Berea Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.
