Stephen J. Thompson

Stephen Jeffrey Thompson, age 76, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025 after being in the hospital since March 20th . The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to St. Croix Hospice for their loving care.

Steve was born 5/29/1949 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to William and Frances Thompson, their 3rd son. He started life in NE Minneapolis eventually moving to Richfield, Minnesota. The 3 boys would go into the Jewish cemetery and play ball, only getting kicked out some of the time. He attended St. Richard Catholic grade school and then Richfield High School, where he graduated in 1967. After high school he enlisted in the Air Force, where he was station in Montana and then Korea. He then attended Brown Institute to be a radio announcer. He had radio jobs in Red Wing Minnesota, Oklahoma and Blythe California. Moving back to Minnesota he had several jobs over his working career.

Steve enjoyed playing darts, golf and bowling. He was a big fan of the Minnesota Vikings (though frustrated at times), Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Gophers. He would take his little sister to many baseball games at the old Met stadium, which influenced her love of baseball. He also enjoyed snowmobiling when he was younger at his grandparents house in Wisconsin. He liked going to the casino and watching television. He married Debra Osborne on 10/18/1986 and they had 2 sons, Matthew and Tyler, whom he adored.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, William and Frances (Biernat) Thompson and brother, James Thompson and sister-in-law, Linda Thompson. He is survived by sons, Matthew Thompson and Tyler Thompson and step-son, Brian Osborne; brother, Michael (Judy) Thompson; sisters, Jeannie Clayton and Judy (Tim) Pekarek and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Also many cousins who still refer to him as Stevie.
