Bruce J. Aune - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

October 5, 1946 - November 9, 2018

Bruce J. Aune age 72 of St. Paul. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Violet Aune. He is survived by his sister, Brenda Mew; niece Megan Jachim and nephew Jonathan ( Elizabeth) Jachim; several close cousins and numerous relatives. Bruce was a giving, tender hearted, and caring soul who left us way too soon. He will be remembered as a strong and burly fellow with a dazzling smile and hearty laugh. He would help anyone who asked and his generosity knew no bounds.

Bruce was a very accomplished wood worker and builder. He came to Alaska to help build my home, (sister Brenda). He renovated his duplex with meticulous detail. He was a wood carver, leather crafter, furniture builder, and loved anything he could tinker with and fix.

He spent his career doing carpentry and maintenance for the State of Minnesota as the Trades Shop Supervisor of the Carpenter and Paint Shop. He worked on projects at the State Capitol Complex and the Governor's mansion where his craftsmanship will continue to be admired for generations to come.

He was a member of the Masons and Shriners. He loved to help at pancake feeds for them and was appreciated by many.

His passion in life was his avid participation in competitive shooting. His mathematical ability was used in the calculations needed for long range shooting. He had many good friends who shared his love of guns and with whom he spent his happiest times.

Bruce was a truly unique fellow who was loved by many will be missed by many more.

Bruce was a great guy and left a most positive impression on me when we were in the sixth grade together in Mrs. Andersen’s class at Armatage Elementary School in Minneapolis. He invited me over to his house one day and we went downstairs to his dad’s woodshop where he showed me the finer points of using a band saw. It was just Bruce and myself and we were only 11 years old. Close supervision was not required in those days, nor did we seek it. The saw blade broke but he quickly welded it together and we were able to finish our projects. He made a wooden water wheel and I made a wooden house that was rather elaborate for the time that we spent on it. I still have it. During a spelling test he raised his hand and said that the secret to spelling the word “together” was simply to spell “to”-“get”-“her”. No one misspelled it and I think of Bruce everytime that I write the word. The class also went to our teacher’s house the next Spring and Bruce helped out the teacher by baking cinnamon rolls rather proficiently. We went our separate ways after elementary school, but I will never forget Bruce, the ultimate craftsman. I am greatly saddened by his passing.
