Dorothy Ann Koplitz - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

July 27, 1931 - February 22, 2015

Dorothy Ann Koplitz (Varpness). Longtime Bloomington resident, passed away on Sunday, February 22, in her home, surrounded by family. Born on July 27, 1931 in Cottonwood, MN, Dorothy was the youngest of eight children. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Richard, and their four sons; Paul (Barbara) of Coleraine, Thomas (Julie) of Cambridge, David of Eden Prairie, and Mark (Monica) of Apple Valley. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Erin, daughter of David; Matthew, son of Paul and Barb; Michael, Timothy, and Eric, sons of Thomas and Julie; and Jordan, Lindsay, and Kayla, son and daughters of Mark and Monica; and by one great-grandson; Caiden, son of Matthew. She is also survived by her sister Lois (Donald) Russell of Richfield, and dear friend Jeanne Madson, of St. Paul.

Dorothy worked at Lincoln High School in Bloomington for ten years and formed many lasting relationships. Later she worked as an executive secretary at Dicomed and ADC Telecommunications. The only woman in a household of boys, Dorothy loved watching her sons compete in sports, and never missed a sporting event. She was also the chauffeur to practice and away games and always had a delicious dinner waiting when they got home. Dorothy loved to cook and garden. They were ways she expressed her love to her family and others. Over the years, her flowers won many awards and were the envy of the neighborhood.

Dorothy was a caring person and treated her daughters-in-law as true daughters. She enjoyed taking them to New York City for Christmas. Christmas was always made special by Dorothy. Her grandkids always found lots of presents under the tree and lots of love from Grandma. Dorothy and Dick loved to take the family camping. Summers were filled with trips up north and to the western U.S. and Canada. After retirement, Dick and Dorothy made many trips to Europe.

Memorial gifts may be made to Community Partnership, Box 549, North Branch, MN 55056.
