Dr. Robert W. Dickson - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

January 25, 1926 - March 2, 2018

Dr. Robert W. Dickson went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 2, 2018 at the age of 92. Dr. Bob served as senior pastor of Hope Presbyterian Church in Richfield, MN from 1961 to 1991. He lovingly and faithfully nurtured this congregation as it grew from a small start to one of the larger churches in the Twin Cities. Bob was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1926 and went on to serve his country in the US Army Air Force as a B29 crew member in WWII, earning a bronze star for missions flown in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he was called by God into the ministry after receiving a BA from the University of Pittsburgh and an MDiv from Princeton Theological Seminary. He served churches in Pennsylvania, Oklahoma City and Duluth, MN before being called to Hope Presbyterian in Richfield. Bob was awarded an honorary PhD from Buena Vista College in Iowa. He was known as a man of great compassion and graciousness to all he met, and an exceptional communicator. Dr. Bob was a man of prayer and vision, with a commitment to share his faith and meet human needs throughout the world. After his retirement, Bob worked with prayer ministries and as a pastor-to-pastors in the Twin Cities for many years. He remained active with his friends up until the time of his home-going. Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Gloria, who ministered with him as a faithful partner. He is survived by his son, Scott and daughter-in-law Priscilla Dickson of Dallas, TX; daughter, Leslie Dickson of Minneapolis; grandsons David Dickson of Plano, TX; Patrick Dickson of Dallas, TX and Daniel Dickson of Elizabethtown, PA, their spouses and six great grandchildren.

Memorial gifts can be made out to Hope Presbyterian Church for their mission outreach and an international pastor training program.

Few words can be said to share all we would want in celebration and gratitude for our pastor Bob Dickson. Through his ministry, our lives were changed for Jesus Christ and the effect goes on to the generations of our family. Just weeks ago, Bob along with Dave, Lyle and Scott gathered together at Jack Lee’s for food, fellowship and a rousing hymn sing. His mighty voice reached the Heavens. Our deepest condolences are sent to the Dickson family and his faithful friends. We loved and cherished him too.

I would like to share a Comforting thought from the bible found at Philippians 4:7 ; And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus.

As Jesus knocked at the door of my heart, I began attending Hope Presbyterian Church. Dr. Dickson’s passionate love of God and the people of God resonated in me and at age 14 I gave my life to Jesus Christ. Dr. Dickson’s encouraging, thought provoking sermons helped the seed that had been planted in me to grow deep roots in good soil. Dear Dickson family members, please know that my deepest love and condolences are with you. God bless you all. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
