Erna Schulz - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

January 28, 1923 - January 9, 2016

Erna Louise Schulz (Schmidt), our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was called home on January 9th by her Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ to join her parents, William August & Louise (Rolf) Schmidt, her sisters Bernice Otte, Lorna Grant & Martha Possehl; brothers, Hugo & Roland Schmidt and her husband, Norman Schulz. Erna is survived by her children, Rolf (Barb) Schulz, of Apple Valley; Karen Schulz, of Redmond, WA; Martin (Linda) Schulz, of Minneapolis and James (Katy) Schulz, of Minneapolis. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy (Schmidt) Wolfgram, 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Erna was born to William and Louise Schmidt on their family farm in Carver County, MN. She was the 4th of 7 children. She attended a small German language elementary school, St John's Lutheran, and graduated from Norwood/Young America Central HS. Erna moved to Minneapolis for work after HS graduation. She became an active Walther League member at Mt Olive Lutheran Church and it's where she met Norman Schulz. Norman and Erna were united in marriage October 23, 1948. They made their home in South Minneapolis and raised 4 children. Later they became active residents of 7500 York in Edina. Erna was a loving wife and mother. She loved to host large family gatherings and welcomed all to her home. She liked to travel whether it was to the family cabin, month-long family camping trips, or traveling abroad. She surprised us on many of her trips by finding distant relatives.

Memorials preferred to Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Alzheimer's Association or donor's choice.

Romaine and I are on our annual ski trip on the Gunflint Trail. We are sad we will be unable to participate in celebrating Erna’s long life. Erna was a dear friend to our mom and we will remember her engaging smile and friendly and warm welcoming manner to all. We are sorry for your loss.
