Glen E. "Kip" Monahan - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

December 1, 1946 - February 28, 2017

Glen E. Monahan, born December 1, 1946 in Minneapolis, MN passed away February 28, 2017 with his wife and three sons by his side.

Glen, known to many as “Kip”, grew up in Bloomington, MN with his sister, Midge. He attended Bloomington High School and graduated in 1964. On August 2, 1969, Glen was married to Mary (Klinkhammer) Monahan and the pair built their life together in Richfield, MN. Glen and Mary raised three sons, Mike, Pat and Dan. The boys were actively involved in sports growing up and Glen enjoyed watching his kids on the basketball court, wrestling mat, and baseball, football and soccer fields.

Glen had a number of jobs throughout his life. He worked as a manager overseeing computer assembly for the U.S. Department of Defense at Unisys Corporation, a manager at Holiday Grocery Store, and a buyer at Asian Foods. After he retired, Glen served as a bus driver for Bloomington Public Schools and also worked at the BP Service Station. Glen and Mary were active members of St. Peter’s Catholic Church where they volunteered for spaghetti dinners, pancake breakfasts, community builders and high teas.

In his spare time, Glen enjoyed reading, watching the Minnesota Twins and spending time with his family. He continued attending athletic events as a grandfather to Brianna, Kayla, Nicole and Sierra, where he watched countless soccer games, gymnastics meets and dance performances. Glen had such an appreciation for the little things in life, like driving up to Duluth to watch the colors change in the fall. He had a natural interest and curiosity in the ways of the world, and was always up for a good debate with his sons.

Glen will be remembered for the kindness and compassion he showed to others, the roses he sent his wife, Mary, every Valentine’s Day and the meticulous way he loaded the dishwasher. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary (Nana) and survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary; sons, Mike (Laura), Pat (Rochelle) and Dan; granddaughters, Brianna, Kayla, Nicole and Sierra; sister, Midge; and grand-dogs, Zoey and Willow.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be given to the Bloomington Public School District and the Animal Humane Society.
