Ministry Partner and Prayer Leader, Loving Wife and Mother. Gloria Stewart Dickson, age 88, of Minneapolis was born April 15, 1925 in Allentown, PA to parents William and Mary Albertson. She grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and attended Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA, where she graduated with honors. She was active in drama and music. Following graduation, Gloria worked as a radio script writer for a station in Sharon, PA. In 1949, Gloria married Robert W. Dickson. She worked for Educational Testing Services while her husband attended Princeton Theological Seminary. Gloria and Bob were subsequently involved in church ministries in Oklahoma City, OK and Duluth, MN before settling at Hope Presbyterian Church in Richfield, MN in 1961. She was actively involved in the church in missions, the communications ministry, prayer outreaches, and faith renewal weekends in other churches around the Midwest. She was a leader in prayer movements both at Hope Church and then around the Twin Cities and Minnesota following her husband's retirement. She passed away peacefully into the Lord's presence on September 13, 2013. Gloria is survived by her husband, the Reverend Dr. Robert W. Dickson and two children, daughter, Leslie Dickson of Minneapolis and son, Scott Dickson and his wife, Priscilla of Dallas TX. She is also survived by three grandsons and their wives, David and Jeannie Dickson, of Plato, TX; Patrick and Petrushka Dickson, of Dallas, TX; and Daniel and Krista Dickson, of Elizabethtown, PA; four great-grandchildren, Alessandra, Eliana, Madison and Elijah.
The family requests that memorial gifts be sent to Hope Presbyterian Church, in lieu of flowers.
We share with countless others the joy of having known Gloria. It was from the teaching her father, Bill Albertson, that we first learned some of the great truths from the Bible. There has been no finer “Pastor’s Wife”, mother, grandmother, prayer warrior, encouraging friend, and faithful “handmaiden of the Lord”. Images of our beautiful Gloria, along with the wise and prophetic words she spoke–remain as inspiration and with gratitude to God for giving her to us for awhile. To Leslie and Scott, the family, and our beloved Pastor Bob–we give our deepest condolences. The ministry of the Dicksons at Hope Church forever changed us and our entire family as we came to Christ as Lord and Savior because of their testimony and example. Our love, respect and gratitude remains with you always.
