Grace Elaine Skjefte - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

November 27, 1928 - January 17, 2024

Grace Elaine Skjefte
It is with sadness that we share the passing of our mother, "Amazing Grace". She passed away peacefully on January 17, 2024, at the age of 95. Grace (Erickson) Skjefte was bon on November 27, 1928 in Watson, MN to Anton and Josephine Erickson. She grew up in Montevideo and was the youngest daughter in a family of five. From a young age, it was evident that Grace possessed an amazing spirit and a nurturing heart, traits that would shape the lives of those around her. After she married the love of her life, Harlen, she worked as a dental assistant until having children. She moved to Minneapolis in 1956, and throughout her life, Grace was a dedicated and loving mother to her children, Jacqueline (Skjefte) Buck and Paula Skjefte. She embraced her role always pitting her family's needs before her own. She was the PTA President, head of numerous church committees and bridge clubs. Her unconditional love, warmth, and wisdom were guiding forces that helped to shape our lives. After her children were grown, she spent many wonderful years at Dayton's Southdale Gift Wrap department. Her presents were the most beautiful! She was very active, a true fashionista, loved playing bridge (6 days a week). bowling, golfing with friends and family, traveling, and enjoyed trips to the casino. Grace had an unwavering faith that carried her through life's joys and challenges and was a long-time member of Woodlake Lutheran Church.
Grace is survived by her daughters Jacqueline Buck (Ray), Paula Skjefte (Ed O'Neill), grandchildren, Brianna Smalstig (Chris), Brandon Buck, Kevin O'Neill (Irene). Preceded in death by parents, Anton and Josephine Erickson, husband, Harlen Skjefte, sisters, Blenda Mulder and Helen Weberg; brothers Everett and Lyle. A special thank you to the staff at Fariview Southdale Hospital for their loving care.

Memorials to Woodlake Lutheran Church or your charity of choice.

I am just reading about the loss of your beautiful mother.
I am so sorry to hear this sad news.
I grew up in the farmhouse that Anton & Josie built. My brother & I attended school across the town from the farm. We had many precious memories of our days at “ Josie’s Farm”
I wish we had more pictures of that beautiful home.
As a child, I remember your mom & her sisters visiting the farm. We thought it was fun having visitors.
We spent hours playing in the attic & in the big barn loft.
My parents eventually bought their own farm & built a new home about 4 miles away .
    Sending our sincere sympathies

We are very sad to hear of Grace’s passing. Harland and Grace maintained their ties to Maynard Minnesota for years. Grace and Harland would invite my mother, myself, and my sometimes one or more of my sons to visit with the both of them and sometimes with her sister Helen. Those were wonderful times. They were always the most hospitable people you could ever hope to meet. Love and condolences from Patricia and sons Christopher and Steven.
