Helen M. Davis - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

April 21, 1920 - January 3, 2015

Helen M. Davis, 94, formerly of Apple Valley, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Hometown Senior Living in Rosemount, MN where she has lived for the past 3 years. Helen was born April 21, 1920 on a farm east of Perley, MN in Norman County to Ansgar and Hazel Borgen. She was the fourth of nine children. She attended country grade schools, then graduated in 1938 from Moorhead High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society. Helen worked for NYL in Minneapolis. After retirement, she worked part-time for Kohl's Department Store in Rosemount. During her retirement years she was a volunteer driver for GAPPP (Giving Assistance to Promote People). her goal, which she met, was to still be a volunteer driver at age 90. She was very proud of that accomplishment. In the 1940's, she worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad as a dispatcher and sent to the remote town of Flasher, ND. Pretty gutsy for a female in 1944. Helen was a long-time member and faithful steward of hope Presbyterian Church in Richfield, participating regularly in many activities of the church. Even at age 90 she still took her turn at Sunday morning greeting. For several years she was manager of the Clothing Center at the church. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Kendall and Bill; five siblings, Vernon, Arnold, Lois, Robert and Carol. She is survived by her son, Rick of Richfield; daughter-in-law, Janette Davis of Minneapolis; three grandchildren, Jennifer and Juliana Davis of Minneapolis, and Jason Davis of California; three sisters, Allyce, Jean and Donna.
