Martha M. Goetze - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

Martha McBratnie Goetze, age 96, of Edina, passed away peacefully at her home on November 3, 2021.

Born October 13, 1925, in Saginaw, Michigan. A graduate of Saint Louis Park High School, attended Carlton College, and the University of Minnesota where she became a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. A reunited friendship at Dayton’s for a modeling session, brought together Martha and her future husband Britt. As a proud Navy wife, Martha followed Britt to Pensacola, Florida where he was stationed. Upon his honorable discharge, the couple returned home to Minnesota. Britt became a Sugar Broker and eventually the CEO Bend-Southall-McBratnie. On Valentine’s Day in 1971, Martha would open up Pappagallo of MN Inc. in Wayzata, eventually moving to the Galleria and later to Palm Desert. Martha loved escaping to Palm Desert, California where she would enjoy bike riding, reading fabulous books, sunning by the pool and baking goodies with her grandchildren.

Survived by children, Britton “Skip” A. (Sherry) Goetze III, Libbie G. Hopwood, Carrie G. (Rodney) Fordahl and Benjamin A. Goetze; grandchildren, Britton A. (Brooke) Goetze IV, Chester T. Hopwood, Isabella H. (Dane) Carlson, Arthur L. Hopwood, Cassie F. (Charles) Brancheau, Rayna W. Fordahl and Andrew S. Goetze; great-grandchildren, Blaire Goetze, Elizabeth Goetze, Britton A. Goetze V, Pierce Hopwood and Caroline Brancheau; sister, Sally (Philip Anderson) Ahlcrona; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her husband, Britton A. Goetze Jr; and parents, Benjamin and Sally McBratnie.

*Private services were held. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery.*

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kappa Alpha Theta National Chapter.
