Orv E. Skordahl - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

September 8, 1921 - March 10, 2014

Orville E. Skordahl, age 92, formerly of Edina, passed away peacefully on March 10th. Orv was born on September 8, 1921 in Sinai, South Dakota.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Evelyn Skordahl; brother, Richard Skordahl; and sisters-in-law, Doris and Nelly.  He is survived by his adoring (and adorable) wife of 66 years, Lillian; daughters, Nancy (William) Fong and Kristi Skordahl; grandchildren, Kristina and Brian Fong; and three brothers, Reuben, Jerry, and Rev. David (Cheryl). He loved his 30 year career with General Motors and his second career with the Minneapolis Auto Auction.  He attended the University of Minnesota and the Northland Institute in Midland, Michigan.  Orv's first love was singing. He sang with the Navy Chorus, the Oden Chorus, the Rochester Male Chorus, the Minneapolis Commodores, and the Augsburg Centennial Singers.  He also sang in and directed church choirs all his life.  He spent four years in the Navy, including a year on the Ulysses S. Grant transporting troops to their destinations in the Pacific. Orv brightened every room he entered. He loved people and made friends wherever he went.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Hope Presbyterian Church, Children's Home Society or Wounded Warriors.

You always had a smile and a laugh Orv making everyone around feeling at ease. Also, we will never forget your beautiful voice at our wedding. I can still hear you singing it. Thank you for that memory.

  2. Dick & Betty Anderson says:

Our memories of Orv are many. We had many laughs and trips along with our years of working together at the Chevrolet Division. We will miss the many phone calls and e-mails traded. May the Good LORD bless his memory and comfort Lillian and family. He was truly a dear friend.
