Richard R. Vernon - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

September 1, 1942 - January 10, 2016


Richard (Dick) R. Vernon age 73 of Edina, MN and Punta Gorda, FL, died from lymphoma on January 10, 2016 at the VA Hospice Unit in Minneapolis. He was a 10 year U.S. Navy Veteran during the Vietnam War. He served on the Edina Fire Department from 1970 to 1995. In 1975, he helped establish the first paramedic program for Edina. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, reading and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Audrey; children, Teresa Anderson (Sean), Marcus Vernon (Amanda Line); grandchildren, Hayden (5) and Dylan (3) Anderson, Alex (11) and Isabel (5 mos) Vernon, Ashton (6) Nichols. Siblings-in-law, Nancy Vernon, Ed LaSota, Darlene Weckwerth, Lois and Craig Witchall, and Stu Missling. He is preceded in death by siblings and siblings-in-law, Ted Vernon, JoAnn LaSota, Allen Weckwerth and Nellene Missling.

    i miss you already Uncle Dick. I will always remember our last conversation we had together…. it was special between an uncle and niece. You gave me the best of who you are and made me feel like you really believed in who I am and who you are. I thank God for those conversations that were only between us and appreciate those words of wisdom and honesty. You have made my world understandable and acceptable.
