Ronald Duane Iwen - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

February 25, 1935 - December 3, 2022

Ronald Duane Iwen

Age 87, died peacefully at his home on December 3, 2022. Born in Cass County, North Dakota, Rony grew up on the Iwen family farm and in the small town of Arthur, North Dakota. His family received some notoriety in his youth as Rony was a twin immediately preceded by triplet girls. After spending some years farming, he moved to Scottsdale, Arizona where he spent the next 50 years of his life. There he met his wife, Margaret (née, Dillon) Iwen of Pocatello, ID, and worked for many years in the construction business. Rony and Margaret had one child, Michelle Iwen, and enjoyed the sunny warmth of Scottsdale for many years. Rony was an avid gardener and had the ‘best lawn on the block’ according to the neighbors, and frequently volunteered to help out with yard work or house projects if a friend or neighbor needed assistance. In 2019 Rony moved to Minnesota to be closer to his daughter and weathered the winter admirably. He was active in his senior community and enjoyed many activities, especially listening to live music and leaf peeping in the Fall. Rony was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (née, Dillon) Iwen; brother, Robert Iwen; sisters, Jean Anderson, Jane Tehven and Patsy Gebeke. He is survived by daughter, Michelle (Spencer) Iwen; grandson, Rowan Iwen; twin brother, Donald Iwen; brother, James Iwen; sisters, Mavis Lein and Paulette Bean; and his beloved canine companion, Charlie.

Service was recorded for his family and friends outside of MN here:

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Arizona Animal Welfare League.

My mom, Patsy, always enjoyed her phone visits with her brother, Rony. She would tell stories about her older twin brothers and the trouble they would get into :) He has been received in her embrace in heaven along with the other Iwen “kids” and I am sure they are enjoying a good visit around the kitchen table. So sorry for your loss Michelle, you are in our prayers.

I was lucky enough to spend many years having Sunday brunch with Michelle and Rony in Arizona and Minnesota. He and I had great discussions about baseball and dogs. :)

Hugs to Michelle and the rest of the Iwen family.
